JadeThaiCatwalk/iStock(UNCASVILLE, Conn.) — Miss Virginia Camille Schrier took home the title of Miss America 2020 Thursday night, beating out 51 other women with a unique science experiment in the talent portion — something that has never been done on the show before.

Schrier, who is currently studying to obtain a Doctor of Pharmacy degree, wowed the judges when she combined hydrogen peroxide with potassium iodide and water. The results were out of this world when the mixture exploded into a large foamy substance behind her on stage.

With her passion for science and her goal of becoming a pharmacist, the 24-year-old has worked to inform others about drug safety and abuse prevention with an initiative she calls “Mind Your Meds.”

“We need to show that Miss America can be a scientist and a scientist can be Miss America,” she said during the competition.

The pageant — dubbed Miss America 2.0 — was held in Uncasville, Conn., and candidates were critiqued and judged on talent, interview skills and public speaking.

Victoria Hill, Miss Georgia, came in as runner up in the competition. She put a spotlight on foster care and impressed the judges, Kelly Rowland, Karamo Brown of Queer Eye and actress Lauren Ash of Superstore, with an opera performance.

As the winner of Miss America, Schrier has earned scholarship money and will represent the mission of the Miss America Organization program to the public as well as advance the goals and objectives of the organization along with her own initiatives.
