HONEYVILLE — A 51-year-old Cache Valley woman died while swimming at Crystal Hot Springs Saturday afternoon. The drowning was reported at the Honeyville resort at 3 p.m.

Box Elder County Chief Deputy Dale Ward said the woman and a friend were reportedly swimming in the large pool when she began struggling to stay afloat.

A nearby group of teenagers noticed the that victim appeared to be in trouble. They called for assistance and the woman was removed from the pool.

Other pool visitors, who had medical background, began performing CPR while emergency crews were called. Box Elder Sheriff’s deputies, Tremonton Fire and EMS, Honeyville First Responders were all dispatched. A number of other law enforcement agencies responded and a medical helicopter was requested.

Paramedics continued to perform lifesaving procedures when they arrived. They transported the woman by ambulance to Bear River Valley Hospital. where she was later pronounced dead.

Ward explained that detectives are still trying to determine exactly what caused the drowning. The case is still being investigated and more information will be released later.

The woman’s identity is being withheld, pending notification of family.
