Last winter, the Utah Legislature designated the first week of December as Avalanche Awareness Week.

The goal is to save lives and offer training to those heading to Utah’s back-country.

During the week, the Utah Avalanche Center will host 20 events statewide, focused on promoting avalanche awareness, education and safety.

Below are a list of events in Cache Valley and Franklin County:

Over the last 20 years, Utah averaged nearly three avalanche fatalities each winter. Four Utahns were killed in separate avalanches statewide last year and another Utahn was killed in an avalanche in Idaho.
