BSA began a campaign in 2018 aimed at including girls as scouts.
Roger C. Mosby was named the CEO of the National Executive Board of the Boy Scouts of America. He took the position after Michael B. Surbaugh retired after a tenure of more than four years.
“As the BSA moves through an extraordinary time of both change and opportunity, we believe Roger’s experience as a seasoned executive will bring the right combination of strength and focus needed to steer our organization toward a promising future,” said Jim Turley, the National Chairman of the Boy Scouts of America. “Mosby ran his own consulting firm following his retirement from leading energy infrastructure company Kinder Morgan in 2015.”
During nearly two decades with the company, he served as HR lead and was one of the original six officers. During his tenure, Kinder Morgan grew from 175 to more than 11,000 employees, with Mosby leading extensive change in management and cultural transformation efforts.
“Mosby was a Scout as a youth and served for more than 33 years as a volunteer in the Mid-America and Sam Houston Area councils,”Turley said. “He also served in the Southern Region and National Committees of the Boy Scouts of America, as well as the World Organization of the Scout Movement.”
He was awarded the Silver Antelope Award, Silver Beaver Award and is a Vigil Honor member of the Order of the Arrow.
“Now, as we enter the next stage, we welcome Roger and his well-suited expertise to guide us toward even more opportunities to bring the benefits of Scouting to more youth, families and communities,” Turley said.
The retired Surbaugh was the BSA leader who unveiled the group’s “Scout Me In” marketing campaign. The campaign was aimed at bringing girls on board as scouts to promote inclusiveness in the spring of 2018.
“As we enter a new era for our organization, it is important that all youth can see themselves in Scouting in every way possible,” Surbaugh said.
In October, the organization provided programs for girls. Several months before that, the group announced it would accept and register transgender youths into its organization.
After over a century, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will drop the Boy Scouts as part of their signature youth program for young men on Dec. 31, 2019. The church came up with their own youth program.
“We honor Scouting organizations for their continued goal to develop character and instill values in youth. The lives of hundreds of thousands of young men, along with their families and communities, have been blessed by the Scouting organization worldwide,” a Church statement said.
