Utah Highway Patrol troopers report Jimmie Grundie was driving a semi-truck eastbound. Near the Peterson overpass, the semi left the roadway on the right side and struck a cement barrier multiple times. The impact caused the truck to roll onto its passenger side.

The semi and trailer slid down the roadway where sparks and heat ignited fuel leaking from the gas tanks. The tractor was quickly engulfed in flames.

Grundie was the only one in the truck at the time of the crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene. No other vehicles were involved.

Troopers believe Grundie was unable to escape the cab of the truck. The fire consumed the entire tractor unit.

The 53-foot trailer was carrying food products.

Funeral services are still being arranged. Friends and family posted on Grundie’s Facebook page that he was a loving friend, who was always willing to listen.
