Alexandra was born on October 2, 1992, in Salt Lake City, Utah, 3 and 1/2 months premature, weighing just over a pound and fighting heroically to live. Suffering a global hemorrhage 2 days after birth, she lived with multiple disabilities including Cerebral Palsy, Hydrocephalus, and paralysis of her legs and left side. Experiencing multiple surgeries and medical emergencies, she loved life unreservedly. Alex loved people, music, art, movies, swimming in the spa with her Granny, phone calls, long, hot baths while listening to Brahms, and any activities with her beloved family.

She adored and worshipped her little sister, Gabrielle Bird, who, with her husband, Jordan, named their first-born daughter Kira Alexandra in Alexandra’s honor. Kira was born 2 months to the day prior to Alex’s passing.

Her stubborn will to live through all difficulties with laughter, singing, and ability to love were unparalleled.

Alexandra will forever be remembered and cherished by her parents, Michael and Elizabeth Whiffen; her sister, Gabrielle Whiffen Bird (Jordan Bird and Kira Alexandra Bird); and her Granny, Melanie Dean.

She is survived by her birth mother Sophia La Fleur; her Grandfather John L. Shumway; Aunt Amy Hart (Steve Hart); John Dean Shumway (Lindsey); Uncle Gregory Scott Shumway; her cousins Kaden Hart, Chaz Hart, Kellen Hart, Crew Hart, Chloe Shumway, and Addie Shumway; her puppy, Izzie, and her cat Lucia Bella.  She was preceded in death by her beloved Uncle John Barney and her puppy, Ziggy.
