LOGAN — A 43-year-old former Idaho man charged with attempted aggravated murder and aggravated kidnapping will now also face an additional charge of aggravated assault. A judge ruled Thursday afternoon there was sufficient evidence to try Andrew Lesky with the new third-degree felony charge while also dismissing a charge of retaliation against a witness.

Lesky appeared in 1st District Court for the preliminary hearing, related to a September 2014 incident.

State attorney Barbara Lachmar told Judge Brian Cannell that Lesky choked the female victim during an argument, while the victim was being treated at the Cache Valley Hospital. She said he also threatened to “burn the victim’s house down,” if she called the police.

North Park Police officer Nicholas Bowman interviewed the victim shortly after the reported assault. He testified that the victim was upset and had redness around her neck, which he photographed.

In October, Lesky was arrested after reportedly attempting to shoot the same female victim outside her apartment. He also threatened her and another man with a handgun and a knife. He’s being held in the Cache County Jail on a $750,000 bail.

During Thursday’s hearing, Lachmar also presented Lesky’s criminal history from California, showing he had previously been sentenced to prison on similar charges.

With Thursday’s additional charge, Lesky faces a total of nine felonies and 17 misdemeanors. A three-week jury trial has been scheduled for June.
