LOGAN – This is the 25th anniversary of Utah State University online delivering digital education to more than 150,000 students in all 50 states and 55 different countries.

Kevin Shanley, USU’s Director of Online and Concurent Enrollment, said in the 1990’s the world wide web was young and the idea of delivering content over the web was a new idea. But USU persisted.

”There are other schools that certainly have branch campuses and satellite campuses but we reach all corners of the state, unlike any other school,” Shanley explained.

Another indicator of the success the last 25 years is US News and World Report rating USU’s online bachelor’s programs among the nation’s Top 25 for six straight years.

”We’ve been really pleased with that ranking,” Shanley added. “We’ve tried hard to keep ourselves relevant and in that top ranking category. And because we’re the only school that is listed in that ranking it also makes us number one in the state.”

Shanley said those same rankings placed USU Online sixth in graduate programs in education and 18th in online bachelor’s programs for military veterans.

“USU Online is in the university’s DNA,” said Robert Wagner, vice president of Academic & instructional Services at USU. “It’s what we do. And we do it really well.”

Over the past 25 years, Utah State University has pioneered new ways of providing tutoring and mentoring for its online students, while USU Online uses a learning management system that is considered a market leader in the industry.
